Speeding at the top of Chester Road

Back home  /  News  /  Speeding on Chester Road

Here are some facts about vehicle speeds at the top end of Chester Road in June 2024.

60% of vehicles kept to the speed limit. Thank you!

8% of vehicles, i.e. 1,800, or about 60 per day on average, were exceeding 35 mph. This is the speed at which the police will prosecute. The worst times are between 3 and 7 o'clock in the afternoon. Please slow down!

The distance between the traffic lights and the Coop is .9 of a mile. At 30 mph this takes 109 seconds and at 40 mph it takes 81 seconds. Is this 18 seconds really so important that it's worth breaking the law and endangering other people? We'll be getting the police to do some enforcement on this stretch at this time of day.

One idiot was clocked doing 72.8 mph at 9 o'clock in the evening. 50 vehicles were doing more than 45 mph up to 65 mph.
