During July, Sid has been positioned on Chester Road almost opposite the turning to the Medical Centre and Wellbeing Hub, registering the speed of traffic coming up the hill from the bypass into the village.
Analysis of the data shows that only about half of drivers stick to the speed limit on that stretch. Disappointingly, 13% of drivers exceeded 35% and could and should be prosecuted – that's about 4,000 during the month. 36% of drivers, i.e. 10,650, were doing between 30 and 35 mph which is too fast but not fast enough to be prosecuted. The highest speed recorded was some idiot doing 73mph but there were 115 irresponsible people doing more than 45 mph.
We shall be asking the police to do some enforcement on this stretch but what we really need is for residents of Kelsall to have more regard for the safety of their fellow residents and observe the speed limits, which are there for a reason.
Sid has now moved to Quarry Lane.
